40,000 Names in the Family Tree
Thursday, October 23, 7-8pm
Robert (Bob) Hanscom, a resident of Andover since 1999, has been doing genealogical research ever since he was 12 years old. Over the years, he has built a computer database of nearly 40,000 names from all branches of his family. He also has contributed to several genealogical publications and, from 1987 to 1998, produced 'The Hanscom Family Newsletter'. Although he grew up in New Hampshire and in California, he has strong connections to early Andover families -- one of his great-grandmothers had roots in this town, and was a direct descendant of the Osgood, Farnum, Abbott, Ingalls, Dane, Holt, Russell, Hutchinson, Johnson, and Farrington families. Bob has also done extensive genealogical research on his mother's Hungarian ancestors, and on his paternal grandmother's Jewish ancestors.
Bob works in downtown Boston at Coverys, a medical professional liability insurance company, where he is VP of Business Intelligence. He lives at Foster's Pond with his wife, Diane, and four children. By the way, he firmly believes that his house is situated at almost the exact same spot where a distant aunt, Deliverance (Dane) Foster (1693-1754), and her husband Joseph Foster likely resided in the mid-1700s.
