Lost Houses of Andover
presented by Jim Batchelder
January 30, 2:00pm in Memorial Hall
Recently moved buildings in Andover have
become a community event. This
uncommon practice was however almost a
weekly occurrence in Shawsheen and
Phillips Academy in the first half of
the 20th century. In fact, in many
towns, most structures that had outlived
their usefulness in one location were
often sold and moved to a new site and
reused.
Andover is unique in the fact that we
have over 250 documented structures that
can claim more than one address.
If you think you know Andover, you might
be surprised to find that the town's
character of today was greatly changed
by residents with a vision where Yankee
thrift and an eye for aesthetics played
an important role in the master plan.
Come hear Jim Batchelder and see the
results of 200 years of tinkering with
Andover's structures and landscapes to
the town we call home today.
