Stone Walls of New England

presented by Chris Tracey
May 12, 7:00pm in Memorial Hall

Chris Tracey and his wife Kathy are co-owners of Avant Gardens, a nursery and landscape design/installation company in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.  Kathy manages the nursery operation while Chris conducts the installations.  Most notably, Chris is a dry stonemason who specializes in historical reconstructions and restorations.  Most recently he completed the reconstruction of a granite slab bridge originally built during the 1850s.  The stone bridge crosses the Paskamansett River adjoining the divided sides of the historic Kings Highway.

For the upcoming slide presentation Chris will be discussing the common process of dry stone walling, from foundations to caps.  Technique and style will be addressed with particular attention to structural integrity.  Historic facts and theory will pepper the discussion.  It will end with an examination of some unique dry stone structures.  Questions are encouraged.

Admission is free.  No registration required.
