Circulating Collection Formats

Recorded Music CD, SC

Collection Goal: increase collection size for CDs; decrease collection size for cassettes

Class as a whole Collect classical and non-classical recorded music

No duplicates except CDs to Go

Billboard, Down Beat, Entertainment Weekly, Guitar Player, Rolling Stone, Sound and Vision, McCants Opera for Libraries, ALA Basic Music Library, Globe Thu Calendar and Fri CD reviews, B&T Alert, AEC Connoisseur, Amazon, BN, Allmusic.com, Classicstoday.com, CDHotlist.com, Andante.com, Afropop Worldwide, award nominations Weed by condition and use. Replace high demand items. Improve signage for parts of collection
CDs Collect in all genres, styles, time periods, composers, performers. Do not add duplicate performances of classical music already on hand.      
Cassettes Keep existing collection but don't add new titles      
Music DVDs Includes operas, concerts, musicals. Purchased by video librarian.    
New formats Just starting to buy SACD hybrid type which plays on both regular CD and SACD player      
CDs to Go Collect new titles for this browsing collection

May buy some duplicates

  May add to regular collection when no longer in high demand Evaluate this new collection
