Collection Goal: maintain collection size
 

Major Subclasses Collecting Guidelines Selection Sources Weeding Guidelines Action Items
Class as a whole Collect for general readers, students, armchair travelers, trip planners, group travel (seniors, cruise, biking)

Collect for specialized travel (scuba, train, canal cruises, hiking, ecology, adventure)

Collect heavily for popular tourist spots like Eastern US, Florida, West and Southwest, Washington DC, NY, the Caribbean

Collect very heavily New England and MA

Collect heavily for traditional foreign travel locations like Europe and Canada; more lightly for other areas like South America, Africa, Asia.

Also collect and store in this area guides to travel health, skiing, shopping, national parks, camping, B & B and inns, hotels and other lodging, some atlases, foreign phrase books, trail guides, guides for women, young people, families.

Other guides - 5 years, unless of lasting interest (most of these are filed in the regular 900s)

Travel books must be continuously weeded so they don't overflow the limited space in the Travel Alcove

Keep Michelin Green Guides, Norton Blue Guides, and Eyewitness guides until new editions come out
