Circulating Collection Formats

Videos  VC

Collection Goal: reduce collection size as we move to the DVD format
 

Major Subclasses Collecting Guidelines Selection Sources Weeding Guidelines Action Items
Class as a whole Collect both feature films and how/to documentaries

Although we might like to move to all DVDs, videos are still in demand, so we will maintain the collection, but buy very few new titles

Currently charging $1 for video loan

Optimize shelving of free loan videos in back of Reference area
Feature Films Collect only a few of the most popular films or items that are not available in DVD      
Foreign Films Collect only a few of the most popular films or items that are not available in DVD - esp. French, German, Chinese, Italian, Russian, Hindi      
Operas

 

Maintain representative collection of most well-known operas. Select new versions to fill gaps in collection in DVD      
How to, documentaries, TV Productions Collect travel videos, how-to for subjects for which video instruction is suitable and DVD not available, TV series/programs only in DVD
