This “conversation” lecture will provide a basic history of the Depression-era Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), including its origins, its multi-faceted impact, and its role in giving rise to modern environmentalism.  The program will also examine the CCC as a precedent for the work programs and “green jobs” now being proposed by the Obama administration during our own economic crisis.

Presented by Chad Montrie, Associate Professor of History at the Univ. of Massachusetts Lowell. His book, Making a Living: Work and Environment in the United States, will be available for sale and signing.
