Out of the Dust
In a series of poems, fifteen-year-old Billie Jo relates the hardships of living on her family’s wheat farm in Oklahoma during the dust bowl years of the Depression.
Out of the Dust received a Newbury Medal in 1998, the Scott O’Dell Award, was selected as a Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year, an ALA Best Book for Young Adults, and an ALA Notable Children’s Book.
