Founded in 1986, CGMI bought and sold several dot-com companies including AltaVista, Engage, Equilibrium and uBid. In the post dot.com world after 2000, CGMI fought to remain in business and changed its business focus to establishing a network of companies to create an "infrastructure" of shared technologies and content. In 2003, the company moved to Charlestown.

CMGI was renamed ModusLink Global Solutions, Inc. on Tuesday, September 30, 2008. The new stock willtrade on NASDAQ under the symbol "MLNK
