Two black Andover residents Charles Brown and Robert Rollings, were members of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the regiment depicted in the movie ''Glory''.

Not  much is known about Charles Brown. Rollings was a farmer who moved from Maryland to Andover around 1862. He died in 1879 and is buried in South Church Cemetery.
