Joshua L. Miner, a longtime resident of Andover, was credited with creating the Outward Bound Program in the United States in the 1960's in ColoradoMiner had met the founder of Outward Bound Scotland and decided the United States needed a wilderness program also.
 
He taught science and served as admissions director during his 33 year career at Phillips Academy, Andover.  He died January 30, 2002.

Joshua L. Miner, a longtime resident of Andover, was credited with creating the Outward Bound Program in the United States in the 1960's in Colorado. Miner had met the founder of Outward Bound Scotland and decided the United States needed a wilderness program also.

He taught science and served as admissions director during his 33 year career at Phillips Academy, Andover. He died January 30, 2002.
