Andover Business - Andover Surgery Center
From Andover Answers
The Andover Surgery Center was founded in 1985 as Massachusetts' first free-standing surgery center. It it located in Doctors Park on Haverhill Street in Andover and since 2003 it has been owned and operated by 18 area physicians (all of whom reside in the Merrimack Valley). It is managed by United Medical System. At one point the hospital was associated with Lawrence General Hospital. The facility is used to perform day surgeries.
In 2007, the Andover Surgery Center began extensive renovations in order to increase the building's size and enhance the experience for patients. In an article about the renovations that appeared in the Andover Townsman, Executive Director Nancy Aucoin explained that the recovery area was expanded in particular and that nearly 3,000 square feet were added to the entire facility. The center also has two fully equipped operating rooms and a procedure room that is meant for situations that do not call for anesthesia. The Andover Surgery Center was closed from December 14, 2007 until January 21, 2008 in order to complete the renovations.
