Illustrator William H. Foster, 1886 - 1941, works were featured in several magazines including, Saturday Evening Post and Harper's Monthly. He was the editor of two magazines: ''National Sportsman'' and ''Hunting and Fishing''. and a pioneer in the development of skeet shooting. Laterin  life he painted bird dogs. The Purina Top Coverdog of the Year Award is presented in his honor.
Novelist Mary Mian grew up in Andover, attending high school at Abbot Academy. Her novels take place in the late 1890's and although she changes place names, it is evident that she is describing locations and the people of Andover.
 
His home at 71 Chestnut Street is listed in the National Register of Historic Places in Andover.
