Dedicated in November of 1930, The St. Francis Seminary, a Catholic school to train boys for the priesthood, was built on River Road near the Tewksbury line. The seminary was closed in 1977.  The building then became part of the Franciscan Retreat and Conference Center.
The Shawsheen School is located at 18 Ann's Lane in Andover on land donated from William Wood, President of American Woolen Company.

The school opened in 1924 as a Kindergarten through 5th grade elementary school. The school ceased to operate for a short time beginning in 1980 when it served as school administration offices. The school administration offices moved out of the Shawsheen building and into the former East Junior High School facilities in late 1983.
