On May 11, 1978, two single-engine Cherokee airplanes collided at 4pm above the Hayden Scofield PlayfieldAll  James Shaddox, of Lowell, and student pilot James Lucas, of Tewksbury had just taken off. Steven M. Manupelli, of Everett, was the pilot of the other plane. All three were killed.
The Shawsheen Indians beat the Chicago Canadians on April 20, 1924 becoming the first team to become champions on their first try at the national levelThe final score was Shawseen Indians 3 / Chicago Canadians (west champions)0.
 
Debris was scattered over a large area crashing into homes, but luckily no one else was hurt.
