Lawrence Airport - Plane Crash

On May 11, 1978, two single-engine Cherokee airplanes collided at 4pm above the Hayden Scofield Playfield. All James Shaddox, of Lowell, and student pilot James Lucas, of Tewksbury had just taken off. Steven M. Manupelli, of Everett, was the pilot of the other plane. All three were killed.

Debris was scattered over a large area crashing into homes, but luckily no one else was hurt.
