About MassAnswers
In Massachusetts, the Boston Public
Library, six regional reference centers,
and six MetroWest libraries have
together joined the MassAnswsers
service. Each contributes librarians to
answer questions at a specified time.
Libraries contributing service are:
Memorial Hall Library, Andover; Falmouth
Public Library; Newton Public Library;
Thomas Crane Public Library, Quincy;
Springfield Library; Worcester Public
Library plus six Metro West libraries.
MassAnswers is part of the
QuestionPoint service which is staffed
by librarians from all over the country
providing coverage 24 hours a day, 7
days a week. The librarian who answers
your question may or may not be a
librarian at your local library.
You will communicate with a librarian
using chat software accessed using your
internet browser. You will type in
questions to the librarian, and read
their responses in real time.
At the end of the session you will
receive a transcript via e-mail. This
will include the written record of the
chat conversation plus the URL's of all
sites visited.
If you need additional help with your
research, the librarian can either bring
in another librarian that is currently
logged on to answer questions, or
forward your transcript to a follow-up
questions folder. Over the next few days
other librarians will review these
follow-up requests and get back to you
via e-mail with additional information.
