When Matthew Cuthbert first laid eyes upon Anne Shirley, a skinny, freckled, red-headed orphan, he sensed that his life would change forever. Although his sister Marilla had expected the orphanage to send a boy, neither of them could resist Anne's spunky personality and radiant smile. Living on the large, formal Green Gables estate, Anne livens things up and gets involved in a series of exciting adventures, but always manages to charm her way out of trouble and into the hearts of everyone she meets.
