117 Elm St. is owned by Albert and Deborah Kyle. The committee awarded a certificate of appreciation for exterior preservation for their New England Vernacular, late 19th century farmhouse. This quiet house is beautifully sited away from Elm Street with a sweeping rear yard, large trees and a separate contemporary barn. Farmhouses of this type can still be seen throughout New England. It is a simple 3/4 Federal stlye with Italiente decoration and window style. While the records at the AHS have limited information about this property, we do know that the Hutchins family lived here at one time. The Committee was impressed with how well the home has been maintained. Most important, its additions are in scale with the original structure and do not detract from its simplicity.
