Alexander Dear bought and lived here, farming on 25 acres, until his death in 1912. He was born in Scotland in 1844, emigrated to America in 1871 and for 20 years was a flax-dresser at the Smith and Dove Manufacturing Company in Andover. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Onthank bought and restored. In 1950s they had the chimney and fireplace redone with old bricks by Homer Brousseau. Mrs. Onthink was an artist and did original stencil work on the interior walls.
