How to Find Business and Financial Information in the Library (or at home!)

Memorial Hall Library can help you find resources to prepare for a job interview or job change, find investment information, or start a small business. If you can't find what you're looking for, ask a Reference Librarian.

Use the following print and online resources for  information on public, private, and international businesses.

Print Resources for Company Information

 

  • Morningstar Mutual Funds (Reference Desk) Mutual Fund Ratings
  • Value Line Investment Survey (Reference Desk) An overview of company stock performance.

Online Databases for Company Information

The following databases are paid for by Memorial Hall Library or by the Massachusetts Regional Library System. They can be used on the library's computers or accessed from our web page, using your library card number.

  • General Business File ASAP: Provides business-related articles from magazines, journals, and trade publications; Choose Company Profiles in the advanced search.
  • Reference USA: A directory of U.S. companies, searchable by name, location, type of business, employee size, sales volume, or any combination of these. Gives brief information, including address, telephone, web site, and contacts. Reference USA is  available remotely home to patrons with an Andover library card.

Web Sites for Company Information

Many web sites listing general company information are available online at no charge. You can also the company's own web site.

  • CEO Express: A portal with links to all types of business sites, including magazines, newspapers, financial info, etc.
  • Europages: A directory of European businesses, searchable by product, company name, or business sector. Includes some company catalogs.
  • Internet Public Library: Search for toll-free phone numbers for companies.
  • SEC Filings & Forms (EDGAR): The U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission's site posts registration statements, annual reports (10-Ks), quarterly reports (10-Qs), and more.
  • Thomas Register: A free online directory for U.S. and Canadian
    manufacturing companies.
  • Yahoo! Finance: Info on U.S. and world markets, investment editorials, financial news, and more.

Learn about investment options, and find current stock prices online. Many web sites provide information on stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and more.

  • Big Charts: Access to interactive charts, quotes, historical stock prices, reports and indicators on stocks, mutual funds, and market indexes
  • Bonds Online: Information on bonds, treasuries, and municipals
  • CNN Bonds and Rates: Bond data, articles, and basic explanations of bonds and bond markets
  • CNN Money : Finance-related articles including the markets and more from CNN
  • Commodity Futures Trading Commission: A web site with information on commodities markets
  • Investor's Clearinghouse: Articles about investments from the Alliance for Investor Education
  • IPO Central: IPO Central covers U.S. companies that have recently gone public or have filed to go public.
  • Motley Fool's "Fool School": An educational and fun site with investment information
  • Stock & Commodity Exchanges: A web site from Rutger's University that compiles stock and commodity exchanges, including those dealing in futures, options, and derivatives, as well as sources for market and stock prices, and reports
  • Yahoo! Finance: Quotes, charts, and other financial and investment information
  • Yahoo! IPOs: A quick snapshot of the latest IPO events, filings, and withdrawals
