The June Genealogy Club meeting will be a field trip to the South Church cemetery. Historian Charlotte Lyons will lead a 30 minute walking tour, present broad details about the three hundred year old South Parish and point out notable burial markers on the grounds. Ms Lyons will highlight the headstone for a former slave named Lucy Foster who lived in Andover and was member of South Church. Attendees will hear the story of how, 174 years after her death, a group of local teens lead the cause to recognize her life. Following the cemetery tour we will step inside the South Church Fellowship Hall for lemonade and a quick look at the South Church cemetery database. Please wear comfortable walking shoes as the cemetery grounds are uneven.
In the event of extreme heat or rain, we will meet in the South Church Fellowship Hall. Parking is available. South Church is located at 41 Central Street in Andover 1/3 mile from Memorial Hall Library. The cemetery is viewable and adjacent to the parking lot. Fellowship Hall may be directly accessed from the northeast side of the building near the parking lot through a blue door.
