Avoid the Summer Slide with these suggestions from Allison Shalek! From Allison: I am finishing my junior year at Chelmsford High School. I am a Girl Scout Ambassador, and I am currently working on my Gold Award project. For my project, I wanted to educate people on the Summer Slide and provide ways to help slow it down. The Summer Slide is the loss of reading skills over the summer when children don't read. This is something that is important to me because I know how significant reading is not only in school, but in life. I also want to be a teacher, so this is something that I want to help with even before I can become a teacher. My goal is to reach as many community members as possible with my information so that they realize how important summer reading is, and more children will read over the summer. Check out the brochure and powerpoint Allison created (attached below) about how to combat the Summer Slide, and start reading!
