The life and legend of the Afghan warrior who helped topple the Taliban regime.

On Wednesday, April 18 at 7:00pm, author and professor of Islamic history, Brian Glyn Williams, will discuss his latest book, The Last Warlord: The Life and Legend of Dostum. The book details how, after 9/11, the CIA contacted the mysterious Afghan-Mongol warrior to help US Special Forces wage a covert war in the mountains of Afghanistan that ended in a stunning victory. Williams served as an adviser to the film, 12 Strong: The Declassified Story of the Horse Soldiers, and has trained U.S. Marines on tribal history, and helped the CIA track suicide bombers. His previous books have been about espionage, warfare, ethnic groups and terrorism. Sign up. His visit is sponsored by the Friends of MHL.
